ShrinkFile

Terms of use

Last updated 6 September 2026

The short version

These tools are free to use for anything lawful. They run on your own device, so your files remain yours throughout. They are provided as they are, with no guarantee, and you should keep your originals until you have checked the result.

Using the site

You may use ShrinkFile for personal or commercial purposes without charge and without an account. You may use the resulting files however you wish; nothing here claims any ownership over what you produce.

You may not use the site to process material you have no right to process, nor attempt to interfere with the site, its hosting, or other people's use of it.

Your files

All processing happens inside your browser on your own device. Your files are not uploaded, transmitted, stored or seen by anyone operating this site. Because they are never received, they cannot be lost, leaked or misused here.

The corollary is that recovery is impossible. If your browser closes partway through, the work is gone and no copy exists anywhere. Keep your original files until you have confirmed the output is what you wanted.

No warranty

The tools are provided without warranty of any kind. That is not merely legal boilerplate. Compression is lossy by nature, browsers behave differently from one another, and a device can run out of memory partway through a large file.

You are responsible for checking that any output meets your needs before relying on it. Do not submit a compressed document to something that matters without opening it first and confirming it is readable.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, no liability is accepted for loss or damage arising from use of this site, including lost or corrupted files, missed deadlines, or rejected submissions. Since the service is free and never takes possession of your files, this seems a reasonable position, but it is stated plainly so there is no confusion.

Third-party software

The tools rely on open-source software including pdf.js, JSZip, jsPDF, LAME, libheif and FFmpeg, each used under its own licence. These are widely used, well-maintained projects, but they are not written or controlled by this site.

Advertising

The site carries advertisements served by Google AdSense. Advertisers and their content are not selected or endorsed here, and any dealings you have with an advertiser are between you and them. The privacy page covers what data advertising involves.

Accuracy of information

Articles on this site describe file formats, upload limits and technical behaviour as accurately as possible, but limits change without notice and vary between organisations. Always check the requirements of the specific form or service you are submitting to rather than relying on figures quoted here.

Changes

These terms may be updated. The date at the top reflects the most recent revision, and continuing to use the site means accepting the current version.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada.
